Formerly the world’s tallest office building, Taipei 101 towers high above the rest of the Taipei skyline at a height of 509 meters. The first four floors are an upmarket shopping mall that features many luxury boutiques, fashion houses and gourmet food.

The observatory is located on the 89th floor, and it takes a mere 37 seconds to ride up from the 5th floor at a speed of over 1000 meters per minute! In addition to the 360 degree views of the city, you can also see up close the world’s largest wind damper which protects the building from the frequent earthquakes / typhoons that Taiwan suffers from.

If fast elevators are not your thing, you could always try running up to the 89th floor! The annual Taipei 101 Run Up is held in May, you can sign up online and then there is a lottery draw to see who can participate.
